NOTICE OF VACANCY
Ombudsman
Vice Provost for Academic Affairs
 
DESCRIPTION OF POSITION:
This position is a half-time (50%), 12-month permanent position located at Washington State University, Pullman, Washington. The effective date is August 1, 2006.

The Ombudsman provides a neutral, informal, and independent process which facilitates fair and equitable resolutions to concerns that arise among members of the diverse WSU community. The Ombudsman conducts inquiries, facilitates dialogue, offers suggestions and guidance and possible resolutions. The Ombudsman serves all of the WSU campuses.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum of five years’ experience at WSU working with employees, students, and/or faculty, or equivalent experience at a similar institution or employer. Demonstrated knowledge of relevant WSU policies and procedures, or those of a similar institution or employer: demonstrated effective interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills: demonstrated experience providing informal or formal mediation or dispute resolution processes: demonstrated ability to interact with individuals and groups at all work levels: demonstrated sensitivity to and experience in working effectively with diverse or multicultural populations: a record showing commitment to customer service and the application of appropriate flexibility in response to issues and opposing points of view. 
 
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s degree: three years’ experience with formal or informal dispute resolution, conflict resolution, mediation or negotiation processes, or equivalent or similar experience: demonstrated knowledge of relevant federal laws and those of Washington State.
