World class… in multiple courses

The second annual Feast of the Arts, a university celebration of food, wine, art, music and theater, will begin this Friday, Oct. 14.

The feasts, held the night before home games, are a collaborative effort involving University Relations, the School of Music and Theatre Arts, the Department of Fine Arts, the WSU Museum of Art and students and faculty of the School of Hospitality Business Management.

“We created the event in response to alumni input regarding the need for fine dining and creative outlets during home game football weekends,” said Sally Savage, vice president, University Relations.

Gourmet menus for the feasts are created by executive chef Gene Fritz and executed by Fritz and his students. Each event requires about 175 hours of preparation.

“Feast of the Arts is comparable to the highest quality dining experience and wine/food matching format that you can find in Seattle or any other metropolitan area,” said Fritz.

Each feast features music. The dinners correspond with the Roy Lichtenstein print exhibit at the WSU Museum of Art. Lichtenstein prints will decorate the dining room and Chris Bruce, director of the WSU Museum of Art, will incorporate Lichtenstein’s work in his talks.

“The Feast of the Arts is part of the ‘hidden’ WSU,” Bruce said. “I think the football games demonstrate WSU’s broad value to our region, but the Feast of the Arts reminds me of how deep the value of WSU is to this community.”
