Simulation breaks down natural disaster effects

WSU film crews taped the process of structural splits and cracks during a Wood Materials and Engineering simulation at 10 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 7.

The simulation, headed up by Dan Dolan, a WSU professor of civil and environmental engineering, and Scott Lewis, research associate at the Wood Materials and Engineering Lab, demonstrated natural disasters’ effects on buildings.

The film will be used as part of an hour-long PBS documentary titled “Disaster Resistant Homes,” set to air in December.
