2005 homecoming events scheduled

Washington State University has scheduled a number of events for this year’s homecoming celebration Oct. 14-16.

The weekend’s big event is the Saturday (Oct. 15) football match-up between the Cougars and the UCLA Bruins. Kick-off is set for 3:30 p.m. at Martin Stadium. The game will be nationally televised on Fox Sports Net.

The annual pep rally and bonfire is set for 6 p.m. Friday (Oct. 14) near Mooberry Track. The Cougar March Band will make an appearance, as well as members of the Cougar football team, cheer squad, dance team and Butch, the Cougar mascot. Other pregame activities outside the stadium include a kids’ carnival, food fair, pregame barbecue and a 1:30 p.m. Cougar Marching Band concert at the Fine Arts Plaza.

The WSU Visitor Center will host an open house from 9 a.m. to one and a half hours before game time. The visitor center is located at the Cougar Depot, on the corner of Davis Way and Grand Avenue in downtown Pullman.

Feast of the Arts will present a gourmet dining experience complete with a four-course meal, Washington wines, music and art. The dinner begins at 6 p.m. Friday in the Todd Hall dining room. To make a reservation, visit http://wsuevents.wsu.edu/cbe/feastofthearts/.

The WSU Museum of Art will feature Roy Lichtenstein Prints 1956-97. The exhibit is comprised of more than 70 prints by the late Lichtenstein, widely known for his comic-book images and Benday dot patterns, which many consider the most capturing and enduring of all pop art imagery. Cougar Conversations will feature four free lectures by WSU veterinary researchers. Lecture times and topics include veterinary medicine and human health, 11:30 a.m. in the Compton Union Building, Room 212; biotechnology and stem cells, 11:30 a.m., CUB 232; critical thinking in medicine and beyond, 12:45 p.m., CUB 220; and the future of plant biotechnology at 12:45 p.m., CUB 214-216. The WSU women’s soccer team will take on the Arizona State University at 3 p.m. Friday and the University of Arizona at noon Sunday (Oct. 16), both at Lower Soccer Field. The women’s volleyball team will take on UCLA at 7 p.m.

Due to circumstances beyond control, Bill Cosby has rescheduled his homecoming performance for Dad’s Weekend 2006.
