Working in higher ed has its priveleges

Working in higher education offers advantages that employees may not always consider. Here are just a few ways that working for WSU might allow you, your family and/or your department to save money.

• Through its free Teacher Rewards program, Staples gives $10 in rewards for every $100 spent. This may be used in Staples stores, by catalog or online. Rewards can total up to $70 per year. Educators also may receive 20 percent off copy and print center purchases and exclusive access to online offers.

For more information and enrollment, visit www.staplesrewardscenter.com.

• Office Depot’s Star Teacher Program offers comparable benefits, with 5-percent discounts on all purchases and 15 percent off copy and print center services. Educators also may receive 10 percent off on qualified purchases for up to $200 in rewards per year.

For more information visit www.officedepot.com or ask an Office Depot store associate.

• Educators are eligible for computer software discounts through Adobe, Microsoft, Symantec and many other technology companies. Ask about the discounts when you purchase software. Discounts can reach as high as 70 percent off retail prices. Make sure to check out prices at the Bookie as well.

• The Washington State Employees Credit Union is open to all WSU faculty, staff, students and their families. With a signature and an initial $5 savings deposit, members of the WSU community can access free checking, ATM transactions, online banking, savings and a host of other financial products and loans at competitive rates.

WSECU has branches in the CUB, on Grand Avenue in Pullman and at 17 other sites across the state. For more information, visit www.wsecu.org or call 800-562-0999.

This list is not exhaustive. Other businesses may be willing to extend educator discounts as well, if you remember to ask! And, if you find some additional discounts peculiar to working at WSU or in higher education, send WSU Today a note and we’ll try to spread the word.
