Learning how to include service learning in courses

A Service-Learning Course Construction workshop held in October at Seattle University’s Campion Ballroom will allow two- and four-year faculty and staff to learn more about constructing courses that include service learning elements.

The workshop, which will take place from 8:30 a.m.- 2:30 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 21, is sponsored by Washington Campus Contact, Seattle University’s Center for Service and Center for the Excellence in Teaching and Learning.

Workshop objectives include:

*Providing fundamental content, such as definitions, models and principles, and integrative dimensions such as reflection, community engagement and assessment

*Connecting faculty and community members who are experienced in service learning courses with workshop attendees hoping to learn more

*Helping workshop attendees plan and craft a service-learning course

*Offering resources and support for actions taken after the workshop

The cost to attend is $25, and includes refreshments, lunch and workshop materials. To register, go to Washington Campus Compact’s website, https://www.wacampuscontact.org/events.html. The registration deadline is Friday, Oct. 14.
