Bumper crop of athletes in Cd’A Ironman marathon

Eleven athletes from Washington State University and the Pullman-Moscow area, including two WSU Students, recently completed the Coeur d’Alene Ironman Marathon, held June 26 at the Lake City.

The event is a full test of athletes’ skills and endurance, including a 2.4 mile swim, 112 mile bike course, and a 26.2 mile run.

The prestigious event drew 1,761 triathletes from around the world. Athletes competed for 80 qualifying spots to the Ironman World Championship in Kailua-Kona, Hawaii.

Howard Grimes, dean of WSU’s Graduate School, trimmed 2.5 hours off his 2003 time and 47 minutes off his 2004 time.

John Schneider, associate professor in the School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, cut 40 minutes off his time in 2003.

James Zuba is the assistant director of alumni development at the Lewis Alumni Centre.
