School of Architecture to host lecture series

The Washington State University School of Architecture and Construction Management will host a series of three architectural lectures on the Pullman campus in April.

Mitchell Schwarzer, chair of visual studies at the California College of the Arts, will speak April 4 on “Zoomscape: Architecture in Motion and Media.” The lecture will take place at 6 p.m. in Carpenter Hall Room 102.

Schwarzer has written extensively on architecture, urbanism, landscape and historic preservation. In his book, “Zoomscape: Architecture in Motion and Media,” he writes about how perceptions of architecture changed with new forms of transportation and photo technology in the 20th century. Schwarzer holds a doctorate from MIT in architectural history and a master’s degree in city planning from Harvard University.

Architect Ole Scheeren, partner at Office for Metropolitan Architecture in the Netherlands, will speak April 6 on “Adjustment during Development, Develop during Adjustment.” The lecture will take place at 7 p.m. in Carpenter Hall Room 102.

Scheeren has led the design of well-known projects including the China Central Television Station in Beijing and the Beijing Books Building. He has recently completed the Epicenter Store for Prada, the Italian fashion design company, in Los Angeles. He has directed OMA’s work for Prada since 1999. Scheeren also led the design of the Los Angeles County Museum of Art extension. He has been involved in various art projects and exhibitions, such as “Cities on the Move” in London and Bangkok, “Media City Seoul” and the Rotterdam Film Festival.

Architect Jesse Reiser, principal with New York-based Reiser + Umemoto, RUR Architecture and an assistant professor at Princeton University, will speak April 15 on “Three Consequences and their Projects.” The lecture will take place at 7 p.m. in Carpenter Hall Room 102.

Reiser + Umemoto, RUR Architecture is an internationally recognized architectural firm that has built a wide variety of projects including furniture design, residential and commercial structures and landscape design and infrastructure. The firm was among six selected to put forth a design proposal for the World Trade Center, and won an international competition for the redevelopment of a railway route and station in Taiwan.

Reiser’s book, “Atlas of Novel Tectonics,” will be published early next year by Princeton Architectural Press. His lecture is jointly sponsored by the University of Idaho Department of Architecture.
