“We couldn’t be more excited,” said Dr. Rick DeBowes, chair of WSU’s Veterinary Clinical Sciences Department. “Matt brings a wealth of professional experience from multiple practice settings and a keen awareness of the importance of effectively preparing students to bring immediate impact and value to the practices they join. He will be a great addition to our program as we elevate our efforts to model compliance-based practice and effective communication in our local practice rotations.”
Mickas will fill the position vacated by Veronika Kiklevich, known widely to her clients as “Dr. K,” who served as one of Mickas’ mentors at WSU.
“I am thrilled with the opportunity to teach veterinary students and to prepare them to become confident, competent new graduates in their communities,” said Mickas.
Mickas and his wife, Claudia, a ’97 WSU MBA alumnus, have three daughters. The family is excited about the December move back to the Inland Northwest.
“It just seemed that when I arrived (for the interviews), I had returned home,” said Mickas. “I am proud to be a part of the academic community at WSU.”
