Acting NSF Director Bement to Meet with Media

PULLMAN, Wash. — Arden L. Bement Jr., acting director of the National Science Foundation, will be available for media interviews from 3:10 to 3:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 17, at the Samuel H. Smith Center for Undergraduate Education, Room 512, on the Washington State University campus in Pullman.

Bement will give a public address entitled “Science Connects: How Discovery Drives Our Global Future” at 2:10 p.m. Friday in the new addition to the Murrow Communication Center, Room 21. At 3:30 p.m., he will participate in a program and reception honoring some 63 inventors at the Smith Center, Room 518.

Bement earned a master’s degree in 1959 in metallurgical engineering from the University of Idaho and is a UI Alumni Association Hall of Fame member. A member of the National Academy of Engineering, Bement became NSF acting director in February.
