WSU Vancouver announces new faculty

VANCOUVER, Wash. — Washington State University Vancouver welcomes 14 faculty members this fall, building on the university’s existing base of locally and nationally recognized experts in more than 35 fields of study.

June Canty, Ed.D., joins WSU Vancouver as director of education programs. Canty was most recently professor of education at Gonzaga University. She received a bachelor’s degree in music education and social sciences from Oakland University, a master’s degree in education from Wayne State University and a doctoral degree in education from the University of Washington.

Stephen Bollens, Ph.D., joins WSU Vancouver as director of science programs. Bollens most recently worked in the department of biology and Romberg Tiburon Center for Environmental Studies at San Francisco State University. He received a bachelor’s degree in biology from Oberlin College and a master’s and doctoral degree in biological oceanography from the University of Washington.

Additional new faculty members include the following:

Business program:Dr. Mei Alonzo, assistant professor of business

Education program: Trenia Walker, assistant professor of education, Paul Goldman, instructor of education leadership program, and Barbara Freeouf, coordinator of math education partnerships.

Engineering program: Xiaolin (Linda) Chen, assistant professor of mechanical engineering, Orest Pilskalns, assistant professor of computer science, and Scott Wallace, assistant professor computer science.
Human Development program: Teresa Ashford, instructor of early childhood and family studies.

Liberal Arts program: Pavithra Narayanan, assistant professor of English, Dana Lindemann, instructor of psychology, and James Ward, instructor of political science.

Nursing program: Linda Eddy, assistant professor of nursing and Sheela Choppala, MSN.

Science program: Gretchen Rollwagen Bollens, assistant research professor.
