“Family Fables”

PULLMAN, Wash. — The Compton Union Gallery at Washington State University will host “Family Fables,” an exhibition of mixed media paintings by Sally
Graves Machlis
, from Aug. 23-Sept. 18.

The CUB Gallery is open Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Tuesday and Thursday from 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.Admission is free.

“Artistic expression often begins with personal recollection,” Machlis said. “Exploration of family biography and memory has been the genesis of
this exhibition. Many of the images in these mixed media pieces are family photographs, records, notes and letters. The text is a combination of memory and imagination — family fables, whispered rumor, traditions and fictions are mixed.”

Machlis holds joint faculty appointments at the University of Idaho in the Department of Art and Design and the College of Education/Art Education.
She is a co-author and illustrator of a series of children’s books
published by Dog-Eared Publications (Madison, Wis.), and her artwork has been exhibited extensively throughout the country and the Pacific Northwest.
