Berthiaume Presents Chopin Recital Sept. 2

PULLMAN, Wash. — Gerald Berthiaume, director of the Washington State University School of Music and Theatre Arts, will present an all-Chopin solo piano recital at 8 p.m. Sept. 2 in Kimbrough Concert Hall. The event is free and open to the public.

The Chopin recital will be performed on the Fazioli Model 308 grand piano recently purchased by WSU, the only university in the country with the model on its concert stage.

The recital features a ballade, a nocturne, two preludes, two mazurkas, three waltzes, the “Fantasie Impromptu”, the “Funeral March” from the B flat minor sonata, and the A flat major Polonaise, Opus 53.

Berthiaume will present the recital again in Bellevue Aug. 31 and for the Spokane Music Teachers Association Sept. 8. Later this fall, Berthiaume will perform the solo piano work “Nimbus Moments,” composed by Lothar Kreck for the Society for New Music Festival in Munich, Germany, and for the Society of Composers meeting in South Carolina.

A former Artistic Ambassador for the United States, Berthiaume performed in the Middle East one year after the Gulf War. He has also performed for national music conventions in Miami, Chicago, San Antonio and Milwaukee, Wis.
