For the past week, middle and high school girls have been developing nutrition teaching kits at Washington State University Spokane’s CityLab. The kits include hands-on laboratory exercises, assays for starch, protein and fats to help students analyze components of fast food meals, information on good nutrition, and teacher and student manuals. Students are also learning about e-commerce and how to successfully market their products. CityLab hopes to turn this pilot program into a semester-long program that teaches high school girls about starting their own businesses. Students will present their kits, including assay examples and posters created to advertise their companies, from noon to 2:30 p.m. tomorrow (July 23) in the Health Sciences Building, Room 110A, located at 310 N. Riverpoint on WSU Spokane’s Riverpoint campus.
