WSU Multicultural Student Centers Now at Heart of Campus in Pullman

PULLMAN, Wash. — A dream is fulfilled at Washington State University as centers for multicultural students are now all located at the heart of campus.

This fall the WSU African American, Asian American/Pacific Islander and Native American students centers moved from west campus and out of the old MSS building, where they had been since 1992. They are now in the new Multicultural Center within the centrally located Compton Union Building.  The Chicana/o Latina/o Student Center remains in Wilson Hall, across Terrell Mall from the CUB.

On Nov. 7, members of the Native American community dedicated the Multicultural Center. A ceremony and grand opening was held Nov. 10.

Steve Nakata, director of the WSU Office of Multicultural Student Services, remembers using the Asian American/Pacific Islander Student Center as a WSU student 17 years ago.  “It was a very small space that offered no counselor, no computer access, no tutoring, or mentoring programs.  What is available to today’s students in the new Multicultural Center is truly a dream come true,” he said.
