VANCOUVER, Wash. — The Manufacturing Engineering Program at Washington State University Vancouver has scheduled an open house for students interested in pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree in manufacturing engineering. To accommodate the schedules of interested students, two sessions, noon-2 p.m. and 7-9 p.m., will be held on Wednesday, March 5, in the Engineering Life Sciences building, Room 255.
The open house will provide ample opportunity for prospective students to meet engineering faculty members, tour robotics, diagnostics, machining and computing labs, and view rapid prototyping and computer numerically controlled machines in the WSU Vancouver’s Engineering and Life Science building.
Dr. Hakan Gurocak, director of Engineering Programs and associate professor of manufacturing engineering at WSU Vancouver, said the open house sessions “will allow prospective students to see what a great engineering education opportunity WSU Vancouver has to offer. Visitors will see our labs, meet with the faculty and learn about our unique curriculum which applies mechanical engineering to manufacturing.” In addition, prospective students will have an opportunity to get an unofficial evaluation of their transcripts to assess their course transfer status.
The Manufacturing Engineering Program at WSU Vancouver offers junior- and senior- level course, and builds upon the same lower-division foundation as a Mechanical Engineering Program. The course of study retains the mechanical engineering emphasis on design, with a focus on product design for manufacture, manufacturing process design and layout, mechanical elements of a manufacturing process, tooling, metrology and machine integration and control. Students learn to work in teams using all of the disciplines involved in manufacturing, including frameworks such as concurrent engineering and total quality management.
