TRI-CITIES, Wash. — Washington State University’s new wine grape growing and wine making curriculum offers it’s first-ever wine appreciation course with the opening of the spring semester.
Taught by Dr. Ann Morrell, assistant director of the viticulture and enology program at WSU Tri-Cities, “Wine Appreciation” meets on Wednesday evenings from 5-7 p.m. on the north Richland campus.
Designed to instruct students about the characteristics of wines, the course is part of the university’s School of Hospitality Business Management program.
“This class will introduce students to the wine industry around the world,” said Morrell, a scientist and researcher who herself is part owner of a vineyard in the Walla Walla area.

The Tri-Cities’ new academic program in viticulture and enology started in 2002. It is supported of the Washington Wine Commission, the Washington Association of Wine Grape Growers and the Viticulture and Enology Education Consortium, which includes Walla Walla and Yakima community colleges, Columbia Basin College, WSU and industry representatives.
