PULLMAN, Wash. — More than 2,600 new students will settle into residence halls and get acquainted with campus life during Washington State University’s Week of Welcome, beginning today (Aug. 21).
As part of the week, nearly 350 students who signed up for the fall orientation program will meet with faculty advisers, register for classes, visit with campus leaders, tour the campus and participate in workshops Aug. 21 to 23. The program is designed to help ease students’ academic and social transition into college.
New and returning students can attend the Back to Class Bash at 3:30 p.m. Aug. 23 at the Student Recreation Center. Students can compete for prizes and participate in such activities as playing intramural sports and racing kayaks in the pool.
The Student Convocation follows the bash at 7 p.m. in the Beasley Performing Arts Coliseum. Keynote speaker will be James Malinchak, contributing author and editor for the “Chicken Soup for the Soul” book series. Malinchak will discuss how to succeed in college. Other speakers include WSU President V. Lane Rawlins and Associated Students of WSU President Jesse Keene.
Week of Welcome highlights include the All-Campus Picnic and Vendor Fair from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Aug. 24 at the Grimes Way Playfield behind Lighty Student Services Building. Students also can use the bowling alley, pool tables and other gaming facilities for free at Night at the CUB from 6 to 9 p.m. Aug. 25. The week will end with a Livestock Rock Concert from 7:30 p.m. to midnight Aug. 25 at the Glenn Terrell Friendship Mall.
