PULLMAN, Wash. — The 36th season of Pullman’s Summer Palace will feature three popular performances in July and August at Washington State University.
The summer series opens with the Pulitzer Prize-winning “Driving Miss Daisy” July 5-7 and 12-14. The heartwarming story centers on a proud, soft-spoken African-American man who is hired as chauffeur for an argumentative old Southern woman and becomes her most faithful companion. The 7:30 p.m. productions will take place in Daggy Hall’s R.R. Jones Theatre.
Also on the palace’s summer schedule is the musical “Winnie the Pooh,” set for July 19-22. The ageless favorite featuring the original A.A. Milne characters and timeless stories will delight both children and adults. Productions will be held in Daggy Hall’s Wadleigh Theatre. Show time is 7:30 p.m. July 19-21, with two matinees at 2 p.m. July 21 and 22.
The summer theater will end the 2001 season with Stephen Sondheim’s Tony Award-winning “Company: A Musical Comedy.” “Company” follows five wealthy couples living in a Manhattan apartment complex and the overly protective feelings they have for their bachelor friend, whom they are anxious to rush down the wedding aisle. Time Magazine described “Company” as a landmark musical. The 7:30 p.m. performances are July 26-28 and Aug. 2-4 at Daggy Hall’s R.R. Jones Theatre.
