Student Recreation Center Wins Award from Washington Recreation and Parks Association

PULLMAN, Wash. — Washington State University’s new Student Recreation Center has been honored with an Award of Excellence from the Washington Recreation and Parks Association.

The award was presented April 26 to Kathleen Hatch, WSU University Recreation interim director, during the association’s annual conference in Ocean Shores.

According to association officials, WSU had one of 20 entries in the Outstanding Facility and Park Award category. It was one of only six to receive the statewide award.

Hatch said WSU’s entry describes how the center, which opened in January, “demonstrates the character of the student community, the outstanding use of the site and building materials, and the project’s primary design objectives.” Embodied in the entry are reflections of WSU’s numerous efforts, including by students, to assure the center offers “comprehensive recreational, wellness and fitness programs and services for the diverse campus community.”
