Nominations Sought for WSU ‘Women of Distinction’ and ‘Woman of the Year’ Awards

PULLMAN, Wash. — Washington State University is asking for nominations for its “Woman of the Year” and “Women of Distinction” awards, presented annually during National Women’s History Month in March. Deadline for nominations is Feb. 9.

The awards, in WSU alumna, current WSU employee, WSU student, and woman outside WSU categories, will be presented by WSU President V. Lane Rawlins on March 29 during the university’s Women’s Recognition Luncheon.

Those nominated for the awards must be women distinguished in academic work, career, leadership, public service or any combination thereof. They should be women who have contributed to the personal growth and success of others, especially women, through education, research, public or volunteer service. Women who have not received awards within the past five years are eligible. The awards also may be given posthumously.

Coordinated by the university’s Commission on the Status of Women, the awards are presented, say commission officials, to recognize the rich traditions of women’s contributions to WSU and to recognize women’s achievements and contributions.

Award program sponsors at WSU include the commission, the Women’s Resource Center, the Women’s Studies Program, the Association for Faculty Women, the Coalition of Women Students and the President’s Office.

For a copy of the nomination form or for questions, contact Sandi Brabb, awards committee chair, 509/335-2190, brabb@wsu.edu.
