PULLMAN, Wash .– Final plans are underway for Washington State
University’s Homecoming Week, Sept. 18-23, on the Pullman campus.
Events include student spirit games and activities, including a bonfire rally and
parade. The week caps off when the Cougars meet the University of Idaho
Vandals for football on Sept. 23. Theme for the 2000 activities is “Vandal
Victory is Ancient History.”
The week of activities starts with living group team banner judging on
Monday, Sept. 18. A lip-sync competition is planned for Tuesday at 6 p.m. in
the Compton Union Building’s Carey Ballroom. Finalists will compete at the
bonfire rally on Friday evening.
A serpentine will begin on Wednesday, Sept. 20, at 6 p.m. in the Stephenson
Complex and snake its way through Greek Row to Martin Stadium. Games
between student teams begin at 7 p.m. Chariot race finalists will compete
during halftime of the Sept. 23 football game.
A street fair is planned from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Friday, Sept. 22, on the Terrell Mall.
The annual bonfire rally is planned for 6 p.m. at Flag Lane across Stadium Way
from Beasley Performing Arts Coliseum. CougFest, an evening of music,
begins at 7 p.m. on Terrell Mall.
The fourth annual homecoming parade is planned for 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept.
23, in downtown Pullman. Grand marshals for the parade will be WSU’s new
president, V. Lane Rawlins, and UI President Robert Hoover. The marching
bands from each university, as well as the schools’ student body leadership,
will be among the parade participants. Each student team also will create a float
and follow the parade route along Main Street.
Cougar supporters also will be able to attend volleyball matches Friday, Sept.
22, when the Cougar women meet Arizona and on Saturday when the team
plays Arizona State. Both contests are planned for 7 p.m. at Bohler Gym.
Homecoming activities are coordinated by the Associated Students of
Washington State University’s Homecoming Committee.
Also a part of homecoming weekend will be Land-Grant Day, Saturday, Sept.
23, when the college of agriculture and home economics celebrates the
Land-Grant Act, which created WSU and other land-grant universities around
the nation.
