Fall Orientation Set for WSU Students

PULLMAN, Wash. — Washington State University students will begin checking into their residence halls Sunday and preparing for fall orientation on the Pullman campus.

Orientation for new students starts Tuesday, Aug. 22, with mathematics and English writing placement examinations planned during the day.

On Wednesday, Aug. 23, students will attend departmental orientations at 9 a.m. and a “Welcome to WSU” event at 10 a.m. in Todd Hall, Room 116.

New Honors College students also will meet for a session on advising and registration on Wednesday. Transfer students will have a question-and-answer program at 11:40 in Todd Hall Auditorium. The schedule continues after lunch with sessions on academic success and student involvement. Evening programs will include meetings with counselors on the college experience and academic schedules.

Students will meet with faculty and take campus tours on Thursday, Aug. 24.

Week of Welcome activities for all WSU students begin on Aug. 24 with 3 p.m. library tours. A new student kickoff is planned from 3:30-6:30 p.m. in the Compton Union Building.

WSU President V. Lane Rawlins is one of the speakers at the fall student convocation Aug. 24 at Beasley Performing Arts Coliseum. The 7-8:30 p.m. program will conclude with a keynote address by Will Keim.

On Friday, Aug. 25, an all-campus picnic is set for 11 a.m.-1 p.m. at the Grimes Way Field behind the Lighty Student Services Building. The Lentil Festival begins with free lentil chili and other events in downtown Pullman at 5 p.m.

On Aug. 26, the Lentil Festival continues with a 11 a.m. parade and an arts and crafts fair and events throughout the day at Reaney Park. “A Free Night at the Compton Union” is planned from 6-9 p.m. in the CUB bowling and games area. A “Meet on the Mall” dance will be held on the Glenn Terrell Mall from 9 p.m.-midnight.

Classes begin Monday, Aug. 28.
