PULLMAN, Wash. — Jazz Northwest, the Washington State University faculty
jazz sextet, will be featured in a May 21 concert. The 3 p.m. program is set for
Pullman’s St. James Episcopal Church and open to the public without charge.
The performance is the first in a series of concerts to be presented in the
coming months by the church. It includes jazz standards and original
compositions and arrangements written by group members.
The sextet includes saxophonist Greg Yasinitsky, woodwind artist and vocalist
Horace Alexander Young, trumpeter David Turnbull, pianist Charles
Argersinger, percussionist David Jarvis and bassist Gus Kambeitz. The group
performs regularly at WSU and recently was showcased at the 2000
Washington Music Educators Association state conference. The group also
has an upcoming performance scheduled at Music Works Northwest in the
Seattle area.
Members of Jazz Northwest have performed and recorded with many top
figures in jazz, including Sarah Vaughan, Lionel Hampton, McCoy Tyner, Stan
Getz, Clark Terry, Tom Harrell, Randy Brecker, Mel Torme, Ella Fitzgerald, B.B.
King and others.
