PULLMAN, Wash. — Washington State University won gold, silver and
bronze awards in a recent regional professional competition in communication
and publishing.
WSU was honored in the 2000 Council for Advancement and Support of
Education District VIII Juried Awards Competition. The district includes the
Pacific Northwest and Western Canada. This is the 18th consecutive year for
the program. Awards were presented Feb. 28 during the district’s annual
conference in Seattle.
Winning a gold in electronic media/Web sites/alumni relations was the WSU
Foundation for its information resource and online giving Web site,
www.catalyst.edu. Credits go to Carol Hill, designer, WSU News and
Information Services; Debbie Moors, editor, WSU Foundation; and Mark
Wilcomb, database manager, CougNet Internet Services.
A silver in projects/alumni relations went to WSU Vancouver for its first
alumni outreach project. Credits go to Cassie McVeety, Tammy Ford and
Jennifer Crooks, all of WSU Vancouver Campus Advancement; and John
Sutherland, publications coordinator, and Sharon White, designer, WSU Office
of University Publications and Printing.
The WSU College of Veterinary Medicine received a bronze for its “A
Centennial History,” a 134-page book with photos about the college’s first 100
years. Credits go to authors Ghery D. Pettit, emeritus professor and veterinary
surgeon, and writer Peter Harriman, Sioux Falls, S.D., formerly of Moscow,
Idaho. Charlie Powell, college public information officer, was managing editor
of the book project, initiated by Borje Gustafsson, now the college’s dean
emeritus.
