PULLMAN, Wash. — Increasing the visibility of Washington State University Chicana/o
Latina/o organizations is one of the goals of the third annual Fiesta Aztlan on campus.
Held from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 15, on the Glenn Terrell Mall, the event is open to
the public. It will “promote campus awareness of diversity issues and help increase membership
of all the Chicana/o Latina/o organizations at WSU,” said Francisco Noe Tamayo, WSU
Chicana/o Latina/o Student Center counselor.
The event is sponsored by the center and the university’s Chicana/o Latina/o Student
Alliance (CHILASTAL). During the fiesta, the “historic independence of Mexico, I-200 aftermath,
and the importance of the WSU administration continuing to embrace diversity at all levels of the
institution” will be discussed, he said.
The fiesta program includes Sabor de la Raza, a WSU student group, performing authentic
Mexican folkloric dances, and children from the WSU Child Care Center breaking a piñata.
