PULLMAN, Wash. — Pulitzer Prize nominee and Washington State University alumnus Paul
Gordon Lauren will discuss “Moral Choice and Human Rights” April 29 for the V.N. Bhatia
Lecture on Excellence in Education.
The 4 p.m. talk, set for Todd Hall, Room 276, is open to the public without charge.
Lauren has been a Woodrow Wilson Fellow, a Rockefeller Humanities Foundation Fellow, a
National Peace Fellow, a Senior Fulbright Fellow and a Distinguished Fulbright Lecturer. His
most recent book, “The Evolution of International Human Rights: Visions Seen,” has been
nominated for a Pulitzer Prize.
The lecturer is the first WSU alumnus selected to give the Bhatia Lecture. After graduating
through the Honors Program with a double major in history and political science, Lauren received
his master’s degree and doctorate in history and political science from Stanford University. A
University of Montana faculty member since 1974, he served as the founding director of the
Maureen and Mike Mansfield Center.
The Bhatia Lecture is presented in honor of V.N. Bhatia, director emeritus of the University
Honors College. It is sponsored by the Thomas Foley Institute, the WSU history department and
the honors college.
