PULLMAN, Wash. — Pullman Transit will provide free transportation to the traditional Unity March preceding Washington State University’s Jan. 19 program celebrating the life of the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr.
In addition, the transit system will operate several routes following the program, said transit officials.
Buses will operate on most routes and, using transfers, take marchers — WSU students, faculty, staff and community members — to the old Excell Foods store, 415 NE Stadium Way. The march begins from that site at 5:45 p.m. It ends at WSU’s Beasley Performing Arts Coliseum, program site.

Patricia Russell-McCloud, an attorney and motivational speaker, will take part in the march and deliver the keynote address in the program beginning at
7 p.m. Program theme is “Vision 2000: Celebrating the Differences.”
Head of The Links, Inc., an African-American women’s service organization in 41 states, Nassau, Bahamas, and Frankfurt, Germany, she has been chosen two different years as one of America’s 100 most influential women by Ebony Magazine. Russell-McCloud is from Indianapolis and lives in the Atlanta area.
The celebration program will include music and presentation of the WSU Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Distinguished Service Awards to students, faculty, staff and community members. Speakers during the program will include WSU President Samuel Smith and Pullman Mayor Mitch Chandler.
The WSU celebration comes on the day after the national, state and WSU “Martin Luther King Jr. Day” holiday. The Rev. King’s birthday is Jan. 15.
