WSU Plans Activities for Sexual Assault Awareness Week April 20-25

PULLMAN, Wash. — A series of activities, including a discussion with “Mommie Dearest” author Christina Crawford, have been planned for Sexual Assault Awareness Week April 20-25 on the Washington State University campus.
Crawford will speak and answer questions about “Violence as a Learned Behavior” during a program at 6 p.m. Monday, April 20, in Todd Hall, Room 133. Also on Monday, an information fair is planned for the Glenn Terrell Mall from 11 a.m.-1 p.m.
A ribbon wreath will be placed at the information fair and at other events during the week so survivors and friends of survivors and victims can pin a ribbon honoring themselves or others who have experienced sexual assault.
At noon-1 p.m., Susan Simonds, a psychologist with WSU Counseling Services, will discuss the topic of sexual assault. The topic will continue during noon discussions throughout the week.
Information videos on child sexual abuse, date rape, stranger rape and date rape drugs will be shown on Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 2:15, 3:15 and 4:15 p.m. in Butch’s Den at the Compton Union Building; earlier showings are scheduled on Wednesday and Friday starting at 9:15 a.m.
On Tuesday, a noon brown-bag lunch will discuss “Reporting Sexual Assault” in Wilson Hall, Room A1. At 7 p.m., a series of programs on “Men Only,” “Women Only,” “Survivor Stories,” “Date and Domestic Violence,” and “Reporting Sexual Assault” will be discussed in Todd Hall locations.
On Wednesday, a noon brown-bag lunch in Butch’s Den will discuss “Reporting Sexual Assault.” The video “Fight Back” will be shown and discussed at 7 p.m. Wednesday in Todd Hall, Room 120.
On Thursday, the noon brown-bag lunch is set for Wilson Hall.
“Scott Haul Run,” a 5K run to benefit Alternatives to Violence of the Palouse, is planned for Saturday, April 25, at Mooberry Track and Field. Preregistration is at 8 a.m. at Scott Hall, and the run starts at 9 a.m. Cost is $9 if runners register before Wednesday, April 15.
