PULLMAN, Wash. — Minerva Soucie, a member of the Burns Paiute Tribe, will demonstrate the technique of weaving with tules and cattails this weekend on the Washington State University campus.
The workshop, set for 10 a.m.-3 p.m. on Friday, April 17, and 10 a.m.-2 p.m. on Saturday on the Glenn Terrell Mall, is planned in conjunction with the opening of the Museum of Anthropology exhibit, “Tule Themes,” in College Hall.
Soucie began making Indian baskets with her mother, gathering willow shoots in late fall and early spring for making Paiute cradleboards. She is dedicated to preserving Paiute cultural traditions through her demonstrations and teachings of Paiute language, skills and arts, especially story telling and using traditional plant materials.
