Concert to Highlight Kirghiz Music April 9

PULLMAN, Wash. — A concert featuring traditional Kirghiz music from Central Asia’s Kyrgyzstan is planned for April 9 on the Washington State University campus.
Epic singer Elmira Kochumkulkizi, a visiting scholar at the University of Washington, will perform excerpts from the Kirghiz national epic, “Manas,” the longest epic poem in existence — one-half million lines long. She will also use the komuz, a three-string lute, during her program.
The 8 p.m. concert in Bryan Hall Auditorium, sponsored by the WSU School of Music and Theatre Arts, is open to the public without charge.
