PULLMAN, Wash. — Washington State University soprano Julie Anne Wieck will present a faculty recital March 26. The 8 p.m. program, centered around a springtime theme, is planned for Pullman’s Simpson United Methodist Church and is open to the public without charge.
The recital opens with “Hark, How All Things In One Sound Rejoice” by Henry Purcell. Also on the program will be works by Mozart, Canteloube, Turina, Bernstein and Strauss, sung by Wieck in English, Italian, German, Spanish and the French dialect Auvergne.
Accompanists will be WSU music faculty members Susan Chan and Gerald Berthiaume. Faculty violinist Meredith Arksey will join Wieck for the Mozart piece, “Schon lacht der holde Fruhling.”
Wieck teaches studio voice, diction, opera workshop and opera history. An active recitalist, she performs regularly at WSU. Wieck has performed leading roles in Purcell’s “Dido and Aeneas,” Verdi’s “Falstaff,” Menotti’s “The Telephone” and “Amahl and the Night Visitors,” Weill’s “Street Scene,” Herbert’s “Naughty Marietta,” and others. She also has appeared as a soloist with several orchestras and most recently performed as the soprano soloist in Verdi’s “Requiem” with the Washington Idaho Symphony Orchestra and Chorale.
She is an active member of the National Association of Teachers of Singing and Music Educators National Conference.
