PULLMAN, Wash–Efrain Villanueva Arcos, chancellor of Mexico’s University of Quintana Roo, will discuss “Quintana Roo, the Mexican Caribbean” as the Washington State University Gordon/Enberg lecturer this spring on the WSU campus.
The April 14 talk is set for 12:15 p.m. in Room 212 of the Compton Union Building. It is open to the public without charge.
Arcos was formerly executive assistant to the minister of tourism at the Mexican Secretariate of Tourism and director and secretary of education and culture in the state of Quintana Roo. He also has held appointments in the budget and planning areas of local government related to rural and indigenous development in Quintana Roo.
Arcos received a bachelor’s degree in sociology in 1975. He is a member and co-founder of the conservationist organizations Friends of Sian Ka’an Biosphere Reserve and Friends of the Sanctuary of the Manatee.
The Carol E. Gordon-Mary Lou Enberg Professional Series was established to recognize the long-time members and colleagues in the WSU Department of Physical Education for Women. Retiring in 1983, they are recognized for their long years of service, contributions and dedication to the profession and commitment to students and colleagues.
WSU and the University of Quintana Roo in Chetumal, Mexico, have signed an agreement to conduct programs and activities of basic and applied research, education and training, technology, and information transfer and development. The first cooperative program will be a summer Environmental/Recreational day camp held in Chetumal and planned by WSU recreational students.
