Seeking proposals for PechaKucha presentations centered around the theme of ‘Place’.
The places in which we live, work, commute and spend our leisure time, effect us in myriad ways, both tangible and intangible. They can shape our reactions and emotions, our sense of health and safety, our ability to participate in society, and the people we can become. Issues related to place reach across a full range of disciplines including cultural studies, geographic and environmental issues, architecture and psychology, to name only a few. Presentations should be centered around the topic of how place has determined, shaped or affected research projects to provide deeper insight into our understanding of place collectively.
This event, to be held in the Fine Arts Auditorium on October 20th 2016, will be an ideal opportunity for faculty at WSU to quickly share their research among their fellow colleagues in a direct and lively format centered around a common theme. This public event will include an introduction, up to 12 presentations, an intermission, and will be followed by an open discussion session. To facilitate interdisciplinary collaboration and continued dialog, the event will be followed by a focus group on Saturday October 22nd for presenters and other interested participants.
What is PechaKucha?
PechaKucha are presentations in which 20 slides are shown for 20 seconds each, making all the presentations exactly 6 minutes and 40 seconds. The format keeps presentations concise and fast-paced, and the slides are set to automatically change in the presentation software. This format of presentations, know as PechaKucha Nights (PKN), was devised in 2003 by Klein-Dytham Architecture in Tokyo. The word comes from a Japanese onomatopoeia for ‘chit-chat’.
What to Submit: A proposal no longer than 250 words, including presenter name(s), presentation title, and contact information, in .docx or .pdf format. Up to 3 images may be submitted in .jpg format no larger than 1mb each.
