2024 Tax exemption W‑4 deadline

The Internal Revenue Service requires all employees who claimed total exemption from federal income taxes in calendar year 2023 to refile a new W-4 Form no later than Feb. 15. If any employee had claimed total exemption from federal income tax during 2023 and fails to refile a 2024 W-4 Form in Workday by Feb. 15, the IRS requires Payroll Services to automatically change the employee’s withholding to as if he or she is single or married filing separately with no other entries in step 2, 3, and 4 withholding adjustments.

*No action needed unless claiming exempt from Federal Income Tax Withholding. Checking elections in Workday is an employee self-service action. Instructions on this process can be found online.

Tax refunds will not be issued for failing to update W-4 withholding by the required deadline.
