The state Department of Labor & Industries has announced that the state of Washington minimum wage will increase from $9.32 to $9.47 per hour beginning January 1, 2015. L&I calculates the state’s minimum wage each year as required by Initiative 688, approved by Washington voters in 1998. The updated WSU Temporary Employment Classification/Compensation Plan will be available on the HRS website.
For all temporary employees (hourly/piece work) aged 16 or older whose pay rate is below $9.47 per hour on 01/01/15, the rate of pay will automatically increase in the Temporary Employment System (TEMPS) and the payroll system. Departments do not need to take action for the minimum wage increase. If other appointment or salary changes are required, departments must process these actions in TEMPS in accordance with university policies.
