Dean Griswold plans to step down June 30

Griswold

PULLMAN – Michael Griswold, dean of the College of Sciences and Regents Professor of Molecular Biosciences, has announced that he will step down as dean on June 30.

Griswold has been dean for seven years, one of those as an interim dean.

“It’s time for someone else to take the reins for the college,” Griswold said, and added that he intends to focus more time on his active research program.

Griswold is an international expert into reproductive biology. His specialty is the role of Sertoli cells in the production of sperm cells for male reproduction.

Griswold has been on the faculty at WSU for 33 years, arriving as a young assistant professor. Earlier this year he was given the Eminent Faculty Award, the highest honor WSU grants faculty members.

His leadership as dean has included the hire of many scientists and a dramatic increase in research funding at the College of Sciences.

“When I’m no longer a dean, I’ll have more time for interaction with the people in my lab,” he said.

WSU will conduct a national search via a search firm to fill the position.

WSU is also conducting searches for deans in the College of Pharmacy and the College of Education.
