HRS launches Enhanced Supervisory Training Series

PULLMAN – WSU supervisors, managers and leads are encouraged to attend all or part of the 2009-10 Enhanced Supervisory Training Series, which begins Oct. 27.

Coordinated each year by Human Resource Services, the series is comprised of 10 courses presented by WSU employees with professional expertise in the topics.

With such topics as Emotional Intelligence, Coping with Stress, Employment Issues and State Ethics, the workshops go beyond the information presented in WSU’s entry-level supervisory training. Many of the interactive sessions present workplace scenarios to stimulate discussion and problem solving among the participants. Others focus on updates to employment law, university policy and recommended practice.

The Enhanced Supervisory Training Series was created to meet the requests of seasoned managers for continuing training opportunities, beyond the Entry Level Supervisory Training Series. Each course is designed especially for experienced managers with managerial, supervisory or lead responsibilities.

The series kicks off Oct. 27 with a presentation by Melynda Huskey, assistant vice president for equity and diversity, and Julia Pomerenk, registrar. They will help participants practice strategies for approaching difficult conversations in “Dreaded Conversations: Effectively Communicating Difficult News.”

There are no fees. However, space is limited. To view the complete schedule and enroll online, visit www.hrs.wsu.edu/Enhanced.
