Make sure emergency messages reach your e-mail, phone

If an emergency occurs at WSU, you want the emergency alert messages to reach your e-mail box and your telephone.

To make sure that happens, complete the following steps.
• Log in to your account at https://my.wsu.edu. Click on “Register now…” at bottom right to reach the page where you can set up – or update – your preferred e-mail addresses and telephone numbers. You also can designate your WSU location and preferred language for emergency alerts.

• Open each of the e-mail accounts that you entered at myWSU and set them to accept messages from both these email addresses: emergencymanagement@wsu.edu and WSU-ALERT@lists.wsu.edu.
Another good step is to bookmark the WSU Alert Web page on your work and home computers. Find it at https://alert.wsu.edu. This site is updated with the latest emergency or safety warning messages.
“Washington State University uses multiple tools to alert students, faculty and staff about emergencies and situations where our community’s safety is at risk,” said Chris Tapfer, emergency management coordinator.
“We rely on members of the WSU community taking the steps outlined here to make sure the alert messages reach them,” he said. “We have a high participation rate, but always aim to have everyone in WSU Alert, the emergency notification system.”
