Coordinated by WSU Tri-Cities students, the event includes a free buffet dinner for the first 350 people to arrive at the Three Rivers Convention Center, 7016 W. Grandridge Blvd., Kennewick.
The evening has two components.
The community conversation will be 6:30-7:45 p.m. A panel will discuss civil rights accomplishments and remaining challenges. The panelists include:
Ken Hohenberg, chief, Kennewick Police Department, and 2009 Tri-Citian of the Year
Norma Rodriguez, attorney, Rodriguez & Associates, Kennewick
Martin Valadez, vice president for diversity and outreach, Columbia Basin College
Mark Nathan Lee, director, Vista Youth Center, Kennewick
Joshua Wretzel, adjunct professor of philosophy, WSU Tri-Cities
The panel moderator will be Paul Strand, associate professor of psychology, WSU Tri-Cities
The second part of the evening will be a live jazz show expected to start with dinner at 7:45 p.m. Larry Fuller of the Pizzarelli Orchestra will perform with the two musicians who make up his trio, D’vonne Lewis and Phil Sparks. Shilah Phillips is the guest vocalist in the second set. Jenoa Timbuk2 da poet will provide spoken word between sets.
