Make insurance choices during open enrollment

Medical insurance premiums costs, deductibles and other out-of-pocket costs are changing — pretty much across the board.

  • Some office visit fees will jump from $10 to $25, or $20 to $40
  • Some annual deductible fees are leaping from $0 to $250 per person, or from $750 to $1,500
  • Some annual out-of-pocket limits will go from $750 to $2,000, or from $1,500 to $6,000

“The medical plans will cover the same benefits as in 2009,” said Lisa Gehring, assistant director of Human Resource Services (HRS). “However, there are many changes, and employees really need to take notice of the deductible and out-of-pocket costs.”

Comparisons of insurance plans, costs and rates have been mailed out, and all WSU employees are encouraged to look closely and consider their choices. Detailed comparisons also can be found by clicking the following link to the state’s Public Employee Benefits Board website.

WSU’s annual open enrollment period will run Oct. 26-Nov. 30. Decisions made during this time will determine an employee’s coverage for the calendar year 2010. This is also the time to enroll in the Flexible Spending Account and /or the Dependent Care Assistance Programs.

Benefits fairs have been held across the state to provide employees with information to make their choices. For more information about open enrollment or to make changes, click on the following link to the HRS website.
