Number of Cougar Cash merchants reduced

PULLMAN –  The number of off-campus merchants permitted to participate in the CougarCard/Cash program will be reduced from approximately 32 to eight on July 1.  At the same time, the number of on-campus locations who participate in the program continues to expand.

Visa’s noncompetition policy limits the use of Cougar Cash as a payment option to “on-campus locations.”

After some discussion, WSU and U.S. Bank developed a mutually agreeable definition of on-campus locations to include merchant locations “in close proximity to or directly adjoining” the WSU Pullman campus.

WSU and the CougarCard Center entered into a relationship with U.S. Bank in June 2007 that
provides expanded banking services for WSU students, faculty and staff. In January 2009, that relationship with U.S. Bank was expanded with the introduction of the CougarCard Maxx Visa signature debit card. The CougarCard Maxx combines all the functionality of a standard CougarCard with the power of a Visa debit card, accepted at millions of locations worldwide.

Cougar Cash currently is not accepted on the Tri-Cities campus.
