SPOKANE, Wash. Two interdisciplinary committees on the Riverpoint Campus have joined forces to provide a forum for education and discussion on the efforts being made to increase health care access to lower income individuals and to share some of the latest advancements in health sciences research.
Strengthening the Safety Net
Community leaders who recognize and have responded to health care needs of the low-income community will assemble for a panel discussion at 5 p.m. Thursday, April 16.
This event, hosted by the Riverpoint Interprofessional Education and Research Committee, will be held on the Riverpoint Campus in the Academic Center room 20 and the downstairs atrium at 600 N Riverpoint Blvd. The panel discussion will be moderated by Margaret Bruya, professor at the WSU College of Nursing and the presenters include: Ralph DeCristoferoHealth for All, Erin McCandlessSpokane’s Project Access, and Danielle RiggsChrist Clinic.
7th Annual Inland Northwest Health Sciences Research Symposium
The public is invited to continue the discussion of health sciences on Friday, April 17 from 1-5 p.m. when some of the latest advancements in health sciences research will be presented during the Inland Northwest Health Sciences Research Symposium.
Featured presentations will include topics of personalized cancer therapy, intriguing sleep research, and the latest on helping patients with congestive heart failure. Presenters are Haluk Tezcan, MD, director of Cancer Risk Assessment and Prevention Clinic, North Idaho Cancer Center; Greg Belenky, MD, director of the WSU Sleep and Performance Research Center; and Toni James, RN, BSN, Kootenai Medical Center.
The featured presentations will take place on the Riverpoint Campus in the Phase I Classroom Building room 122 at 668 N Riverpoint Blvd. Following the presentations, the symposium will conclude in the Phase I Classroom Building Gallery with a reception and poster session where twenty-six scholars and developing scholars from the Inland Northwest will present their research projects.
Visitors for both events are encouraged to use public transit; STA Route #29 serves Riverpoint. Bike racks are located by every building, and the Centennial Trail provides pedestrian/bike access. Drivers should use the meters in the green parking lots, or park in the Pay and Display lot (cash only) located just off of Spokane Falls Boulevard to the west of the South Campus Facility at 412 E. Spokane Falls Blvd. One-hour parking on city streets is also available.
