Secretary of State Visits WSU Vancouver Today

VANCOUVER, Wash. – Washington Secretary of State Sam Reed and Oregon Secretary of State Kate Brown will be at Washington State University Vancouver from 3:30 – 4:30 p.m. today, April 13 in the Classroom building, room 225. Their visit is part of Washington State’s fourth annual College Civics Week. The event is free and open to the public, though seating is limited.

Reed and Brown will participate in Professor Mark Stephan’s, course in public policy. Reed and Brown will be available to address topics of civic engagement and other policy topics as time allows.

“We are very glad to have both Secretaries of State here talking about this subject.  Civic engagement and service learning are important parts of our vision for students majoring in Public Affairs and the campus as a whole,” said Paul Thiers, the program director in Public Affairs.

Reed and Brown are joining college students to promote President Obama’s call to service, “Find Your One Thing.” This weeklong tour, from April 13 to 17, will focus on getting young people on 23 campuses to take small steps toward civic engagement.

A proud Coug, Reed graduated with a bachelor’s degree in social studies and a master’s degree in political science from Washington State University.
