WSU Homecoming Features Week-Long Slate of Events, Activities for Students, Alums

PULLMAN, Wash. – A full slate of activities will mark the 2009 Homecoming celebration at Washington State University beginning this Sunday (Oct. 4) and culminate the following weekend with a street fair, homecoming bonfire, food fair, and pre-game rally just prior to Saturday’s 2 p.m. PAC-10 football matchup at Martin Stadium between the WSU Cougars and the Sun Devils of Arizona State University.

A variety of student contests and competitions are scheduled throughout the week and a number of art, natural science and historical exhibits, special presentations, alumni and student recognition events and seminars will precede Saturday’s’ Homecoming game.

Among the major events of the week will be a presentation of the 2009 Regents’ Distinguished Alumnus Award by WSU President Elson Floyd and the Board of Regents to Dwight Damon, DDS, MSD, at 1:30 p.m. on Friday in the Compton Union Building (CUB) Auditorium. Also on Friday, a special reception held exclusively for all WSU Alumni Association Life Members and their guests will begin at 7 p.m. in the Great Hall of the Lewis Alumni Centre.

Major events on Saturday include the WSU Visitor Center Homecoming Welcome beginning at 9 a.m. at 225 N. Grand Ave. The event will feature samples of WSU’s Cougar Cheese-of-the-Week, campus maps and information, tasty treats compliments of WSU Dining Services, souvenirs, and free transit to campus.

 A dedication and ribbon-cutting ceremony for the newly constructed Biotechnology Life Sciences Building at 1770 NE. Stadium Way will be held Saturday beginning at 10:30 a.m.

Various alumni recognition and welcoming events have also been scheduled by many of WSU’s colleges and schools.
