An ad designed to help maintain WSU’s national reputation for advancing diversity will appear in the Chronicle of Higher Education’s annual diversity supplement on Oct. 16.
“WSU’s excellent diversity work was highlighted in the Chronicle’s inaugural edition in 2006. That brought our university a lot of recognition in this area,” said Michael J. Tate, vice president of the Division of Student Affairs, Equity and Diversity. “Ads such as the one scheduled to run in October help keep WSU’s name out there as a diversity leader.”
President Elson S. Floyd, along with diverse WSU faculty and students, are featured in the ad. Faculty and professional students include: Susan Banks-Joseph, associate professor of teaching and learning; Susmita Bose, associate professor of mechanical and materials engineering; Victor Villanueva, Regents professor of English; nursing student Momodu-Sallieu Sesay; pharmacy student Sean Thurston, and WWAMI Spokane student Carol Yang.
Creation of the ad was a collaboration between Steve Nakata, student affairs, equity and diversity; Ray Rhamey, marketing and creative services, and graphic designer David Hoyt.
“The concept for the ad is based on the simple idea that while WSU’s faculty, staff and students have many different ethnicities, there is one color that bonds all of us together and that color is crimson,” Rhamey said.
