Topic: Protecting faculty jobs in crisis economy

Faculty employment advocate and professor Duane Storti will speak on protecting jobs during the down economy at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 22, in the Fine Arts auditorium on the Pullman campus. A reception will follow.

His presentation is sponsored by the WSU chapter of the American Association of University Professors (WSU-AAUP).

Storti is an associate professor of mechanical engineering and adjunct professor of mathematics at the University of Washington. He is an advocate for protecting quality education by protecting faculty jobs and assuring reasonable workloads and fair pay for all university employees.

He is best known for serving as the named plaintiff in the case of Storti v. UW, which re-established the binding legal nature of the UW faculty handbook. In the settlement, UW faculty recovered a 2 percent merit salary increase and more than $13,000,000 in back pay and interest.

Active with the AAUP for more than a decade, Storti serves on the national membership committee and is co-author of the recently released investigative report on the closure of Antioch College.
