Use of ANGEL expands, now available universitywide

PULLMAN — Use of the ANGEL learning management system, which will replace eLearning system, is now available on all four campuses.

The WSU Pullman ANGEL Implementation Committee has been working since early spring on policies to move to ANGEL as the primary learning management system across the university.

The committee, composed of faculty representatives from across the Pullman campus, has been collaborating with the Center for Distance and Professional Education and Information Technology Services to provide a smooth transitional period.

ANGEL (lms.wsu.edu) is currently available and in use at the Spokane, Tri-Cities and Vancouver urban campuses with more than 739 active courses and 5,545 students. On the Pullman campus, ANGEL is also available for faculty use.

Support material
ANGEL online support material (ANGEL.wsu.edu) is currently being created to assist faculty and students from across the university. However, eLearning (elearning.wsu.edu) is still available through June 2010 for WSU Pullman allowing faculty to make the transition to ANGEL over the next year.

CDPE will assist all interested faculty with the transfer of their eLearning course material to ANGEL. The request to transfer a course from eLearning to ANGEL must come from the faculty who developed the course for obvious security, resource management, and intellectual property rights concerns. Faculty will request a course transfer via a secure online form. This service will be available beginning today, July 21. Please visit https://online.wsu.edu/services to request a course transfer.

Transfer process
While the process of requesting a new course space is more streamlined, the process of transferring a course is still a manual effort. Faculty should be aware that if there are a large number of simultaneous requests, it may take longer to complete the requested transfers. CDPE plans to transfer between 30 and 50 courses per week. Requests will be processed on a first come, first served basis. Special exceptions will be made for some freshman courses.

Faculty may also create or transfer their own individual courses. Training sessions are currently being provided on the various campuses this summer. CDPE will provide expanded individual, group and departmental training for faculty interested in moving to or using ANGEL. Additionally, extensive self-support Web resources for ANGEL development and functionality are being developed for faculty and students. The expanded training schedule and additional self-support documentation will be available at https://online.wsu.edu/services.

Courses, enrollment integrated
The implementation of ANGEL at WSU will provide faculty and students with a more robust enrollment and efficient course request process, because this material has been encorporated into ANGEL, including all courses and course enrollments. This automated process includes the addition or deletion of students based on their class enrollment status.

More than 8,864 course sites from units throughout the university have been uploaded and are available for activation and use by faculty for the fall 2009 semester.

Faculty can access the Helpdesk online Request Help Form at https://infotech.wsu.edu/itroot/script/ITSHelpForm.asp or call their local IT Helpdesk at the following Helpdesk numbers: Pullman at 509-335-HELP (4357), Spokane at 509-358-7748, Tri-Cities at 509-372-7334, and Vancouver at 360-546-9770.
