PULLMAN WSU continues to report strong enrollment growth, with the university’s enrollment for spring semester showing a 4.7 percent increase in student headcount over last spring’s numbers.Overall, spring semester enrollment, which is figured after the 10th day of classes, is at 23,810 students university-wide, up from 22,741 last spring. All of WSU’s campuses showed significant enrollment growth. The percentage of students of color was up somewhat across the university, from 14.4 percent last spring to 14.7 percent.
“We continue to be pleased by our overall enrollment picture. Providing educational access for qualified students is central to our mission here at WSU. We are experiencing steady growth in enrollment and are attracting applications from a strong and diverse pool of students,” said John Fraire, vice president for enrollment management.
Fraire said the university is continuing to accept applications for the fall for all of its campuses and has no plans to cap enrollment, despite continued concerns about the budget picture for the upcoming fiscal year.
Student headcount at the Pullman campus is at 18,136, an increase of 648 students, or 3.7 percent, over last spring. The number of full-time equivalent students, a measure of credit hours taken, increased 2.8 percent. The campus saw significant growth in its international student population, which increased by 148 students, or more than 14 percent, to 1,180.
WSU Tri-Cities increased its headcount by 129 students, or 10.6 percent, to 1,348 this spring. The FTE student total increased by 10.4 percent. The campus is in its second year of educating freshmen students. The spring enrollment includes 87 freshmen and 97 sophomores.
WSU Vancouver recorded an 8.8 percent increase in student headcount and a 12.4 percent rise in FTE student totals over last spring. The campus is educating 2,747 students, a 225-student increase over last spring. Freshman-level students showed the fastest rate of growth in Vancouver, up 33.9 percent over last spring.
WSU Spokane showed a 4.6 percent increase in student headcount over last spring, increasing from 1,472 to 1,539. The Spokane campus recorded a 3.3 percent increase in FTE students. Professional (up 11.8 percent) and graduate-level (up 5.2 percent) students both showed strong growth in Spokane.
