University Budget Committee sets guiding principles

PULLMAN – WSU’s new 15-member University Budget Committee, which will address budget reductions for the 2009-2011 budget, began its work at a Dec. 12 meeting.


 

Chaired by President Elson S.
Floyd
and Provost and Executive Vice President Warwick M. Bayly
, the UBC will assist in fact-finding and decision-making for the upcoming biennium.


 

The committee discussed its membership, the committee’s charge, and its guiding principles, which include
:

  • Everything is on the table
  • Protect people to the extent possible
  • Maintain student access without compromising quality
  • Emerge from the financial crisis as a stronger institution and as quickly as possible
  • Be guided by strategic priorities
  • Mission-driven decisions
  • Diversify financial resources where possible and increase efficiency and productivity

The committee also discussed and agreed to a series of communication actions, including updates from the committee to be published on its website.
 


 

All members of the WSU community are encouraged to submit suggestions to the committee as to how WSU can “cut costs, operate more efficiently, increase revenue, and more effectively fulfill its mission.” Suggestions can be submitted online via a form on the UBC website at https://budget-committee.wsu.edu
